Four Classroom Simulations
Students put their learning into action through four age-appropriate government and decision-making simulations.
Students have opportunities to experience ideas connected to:
- Federal Government & Parliament — representatives, the Prime Minister, Cabinet, the Opposition, voting, and the Governor General
- Alberta Provincial Government — representatives, the Premier, provincial decision making, and the Lieutenant Governor
- Local Government — the Mayor, representatives, community services, and decisions that affect a town or city
- First Nations Community Leadership & Decision Making — representation, community perspectives, leadership, discussion, and consensus
The simulations are intentionally simplified for Grade 2 learners. They focus on the big ideas of representation, participation, leadership, listening, and decision making rather than attempting to reproduce formal government procedures.

Designed for Teachers!
Government can feel like a challenging topic to teach to seven- and eight-year-olds. This resource turns abstract ideas into stories, characters, problems, choices, and experiences students can understand.
Throughout Bruno's journey, students meet Meii, who helps him develop the skills of an active citizen. Bruno learns to find information, consider perspectives, make thoughtful decisions, represent others, solve problems, and take responsibility for his choices.
At the same time, students discover how governments work at the federal, provincial/territorial, local, and First Nations community levels through concrete examples and four memorable classroom simulations.
And when Bruno finally returns home to Newfoundland and Labrador, he discovers one final surprise:
Netty is the Premier!
By then, students understand exactly what that means—and they have the government and citizenship knowledge to explain how citizens, representatives, leaders, and communities are connected.
Simply prepare the lesson materials, open the presentation slides, and let Bruno, Meii, and Netty guide your class through government and citizenship!
