Alberta Interdisciplinary Curriculum Aligned for Grade 2

Bruno’s journey across Canada is more than a series of stories. It is an exploration of land, identity, community, responsibility, and belonging—told through the eyes of a curious beaver who sometimes makes mistakes, learns from them, and grows.

Note: This item is currently being updated for the 2026–2027 school year and will be available mid-June.

As students travel with Bruno from province to province and territory to territory, they will:

• learn about Canada’s geography, communities, and cultures
• grow as readers, writers, and thinkers
• reflect on emotions, choices, and relationships
• explore what it means to be responsible, fair, and kind

This unit plan provides a complete set of lesson ideas and Social Studies learning outcomes within flexible 8-week, 12-week, and year-long frameworks. It also includes connections to English Language Arts, Physical Education & Wellness (with a focus on social-emotional learning), and Science.

Educators are encouraged to adapt the lessons to suit their classroom needs. Accompanying slides are included to support instruction.

Both colour and black-and-white versions of the Passport activity are included.
